Why have a BID?

Graffiti in Rose St

A BID is an ideal way to offer more competition to other locations, whether it be through creation of a more attractive working environment to encourage potential staff to choose the area; a better external environment for visitors to enjoy; or a more thriving area to invest in.

If crime is a particular problem, then businesses can work together via the BID, and in partnership with the police and local authority, to deliver a range of initiatives to reduce losses resulting from crime.

There are a wide range of services that a BID could offer and it is businesses in the proposed BID area that decide what they would like to be delivered.

The other major benefit of a BID is that it is a way for businesses to have a much more effective relationship with the public sector. BIDs in place in England have found that their local authorities are now much more responsive to business’ needs.

The crucial thing is that BID services (paid for by the levy that businesses contribute following a successful ballot) must be in addition to those that are already delivered by the Council and local police.
